HIKING
Hiking in the Gargano national park
The Ripa Village is an excellent starting point for those who wish to go hiking in the Gargano National Park, visit the characteristic surrounding villages and board a boat to discover the wonderful Tremiti Islands or the various hidden bays.
Here are all the wonders in the area:
Rodi Garganico
A short way away from the village is the historic center of Rodi Garganico, one of Puglia’s villages with the most ancient maritime traditions. This characteristic little town stands on a cliff and is surrounded by thick verdant vegetation of olive and citrus groves.
The historic center of Rodi retains its peculiarities as a seaside village that needed to constantly defend itself from the attacks of the enemy coming from the sea; in fact, houses are all leaning against one another, as if they wanted to compose a compact and united formation.
Worth a visit are the Aragonese Castle and the whole area that rises on its slopes. Located in the center, the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Libera celebrates its solemnity on July 2nd with religious rites during the day and a fair of taste and fireworks over the sea in the evening.
Last stop not to be missed is the Belvedere of the city, which offers a splendid panoramic view of the area from the green part to the east and west beaches.

Peschici, Vieste and Vico del Gargano
Near Rodi Garganico and easy to reach from the village, there are 3 wonderful must-see towns.
Peschici is a seaside town known for its peculiar position as it stands perched on a rock in one of the northernmost points of Gargano. The historic center is highly suggestive and is surrounded by medieval walls. Getting lost in its streets is a truly pleasant experience. Do not miss out on the Church of Sant’Elia Profeta, patron saint of the town, and the Castle located right next to the rocky ridge in a point from which it was easier to dominate the whole town.
Vieste offers visitors many places of interest to visit. Vieste, besides being a beautiful town like all the others, still preserves the Cathedral, the Castle, the Trabucchi and the coastal Towers. Here too, the historic center is made up of narrow alleys and white houses, distributed on a rock that juts out right into the sea. While walking through the streets you will enjoy breathtaking views.
Vico del Gargano, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages of Italy, lies halfway between the Umbra Forest and the sea. Vico is reminiscent of a crib and while walking through the streets of its historic center you can notice a wealth of gates, railings, coats of arms, stairways and stone arches that embellish and furnish the town. Thanks to the emigration of its inhabitants, it was possible to preserve the state and originality of the architecture of the place, of which the so-called “monastic cuisine” is a symbol.

Tremiti Islands
About twenty kilometers off the coast are the famous Tremiti Islands, also called the Diomedee.
San Dominio, the largest and richest in services, stands out for its beautiful forest of Aleppo pines and holm oaks. The island of San Nicola is rich in monuments with towers, fortifications, walls and cloisters. Capraia is completely deserted as there are no buildings or trees, its surface is covered with a lush mantle of flowers and is inhabited by large colonies of seagulls. Cretaccio is a rock located between San Dominio and San Nicola, while Pianosa is part of the protected area of the Marine Park. The 5 islands therefore form a natural heavenly archipelago with colorful backdrops visible through the crystal-clear water, unique coves with exclusive entrances and caves of rare beauty.

Trabucchi
The Gargano coast is also famous for the presence of the so-called Trabucchi, ancient buildings used for fishing which have recently become active thanks to projects promoted by GAL Gargano and the Puglia Region. A Trabucco is like a small house built on stilts and its construction material is wood. The Trabucco is distinguished by a central wooden pole that stretches over the water and functions as a seat for the lookout of the house that warns the other fishermen once the fish enters the nets so that they can pull the tops and close the network. Walking on the coast and visiting one of these buildings present in other few stretches of the coast of the Italian peninsula is a truly striking experience.
